Fruits of Hope

Our Mission
We are five of the University of Wollongong's Humanitarian Engineering students who have been selected by Mining Engineering lecturer and head of Humanitarian Engineering at the University of Wollongong, Mr. David Walker.
Our mission is to provide the Fruits of Hope Academy in Kigali, Rwanda, adequate water supply through a functional water tank which will be used for purposes such as drinking, washing hands, flushing toilets and watering the garden in the dry season. As Kigali receives heavy rainfall during the wet season, we aim to provide tanks and/or a water reserve to harvest this rainfall which will ultimately reduce the schools water usage bill so they can use their saved funds for future projects for the children.
If we complete this project in enough time, as well as raise enough funds, we also plan to level the outdoor area and build a shelter next to the soccer field for the school children to sit under during matches, and for the community to access in the evenings.
In order to complete both tasks we have been assigned to raise US$750 per person, which equates to, at this given time according to Google Finance (2020), AUD$6212.60.
If we are lucky enough to raise more money than intended, we will use these donations to fund an added project for the school and/or community.
We will be working in collaboration with our stakeholder Fred Buyinza, Principle and Founder of the Fruits of Hope Academy, over the course of 13 weeks to discuss the elements of our project in order to ensure we create the best possible design for the school and community.
